Overview & Concept

Project Scope: In collaboration with the Ottawa Kansas Gangwish Library, Montana State Library, Virginia Tech Library, University of Massachusetts Library, California State University Bakersfield Library, and The University of Texas at Austin Libraries, as well as through strategic ties with the Kansas Library Association, we, Chijike Dikeogu and Subjective Reality Studios, are meticulously crafting a comprehensive digital replica of the Library of Alexandria and its surroundings. This immersive undertaking leverages historical data to create an authentic and educational gaming experience.

Primary Educational Goal: At the core of this endeavor is the primary objective of enhancing information literacy among students. The game serves as a dynamic tool to impart essential skills in research, critical evaluation, and information utilization, aligning seamlessly with classroom learning objectives.

Interactive Learning Environment: Players will navigate the recreated Library of Alexandria, engaging with historical artifacts, manuscripts, and interactive elements that mirror real-world research scenarios. This hands-on approach fosters a deeper understanding of information sources, credibility assessment, and effective utilization of resources.

Character-Centric Learning: The narrative unfolds through two protagonists—Ranah in the present and Imawaset in the past. This dual perspective offers students a unique lens to explore historical contexts and encourages critical thinking. Imawaset, a handmaiden and mage, adds a compelling layer to the storyline, connecting students to historical events in a relatable manner.

Serious Game Elements: While my focus is on information literacy, the inclusion of a combat system provides an engaging and immersive learning experience. Challenges and quests are designed to reinforce critical thinking skills and decision-making, ensuring an impactful blend of education and entertainment.

Inclusive Deity Perspectives: As an extra layer of engagement, short side stories allow players to step into the roles of deities like Osiris, Isis, Apis, Horus, and Ra. This novel feature introduces mythological elements, promoting a holistic understanding of historical narratives and fostering an appreciation for diverse perspectives.

Classroom Integration: Designed with educators in mind, our game aligns with classroom curricula, offering a supplementary tool for teaching information literacy. Lesson plans and discussion guides accompany the game, facilitating seamless integration into educational programs.
