Santa Can’t Breath on Mars

Post has published by Chijike Dikeogu

Overview

In this game, play as Santa as you try to deliver presents to generate enough Christmas Spirit to sustain your life force as you slowly suffocate on Mars. It’s easy to go around delivering presents house-to-house at first, but if you ignore a house for too long, its residents’ sadness warps the landscape around them. Think carefully about which houses you want to deliver to first.

My Role

My primary role was as the Sound Designer & Environment Artist. In regards to the Pico 8 Engine, It has a unique and somewhat annoying feature. It does not have an import function and thus does not allow a developer to import anything in any format. All game assets must be created within the engine

What Did I learn?

I learned how to make 8-bit music and art assets within an extreme level of limitation. Thankfully, I have a background with the midi software such as pro tools and Fl Studio. While I didn’t use it in this instance. It made the transition to learning Pico 8’s constrained midi feature slightly easier to comprehend.
